The Sponsor of the Art Contest is Dallas Solstice


The 2013 Dallas Solstice Art Contest (“the Contest”), is open only to legal residents of the United States, it’s territories and possessions and Canada. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Employees and the immediate families of Dallas Solstice, or any of its respective affiliates and subsidiaries are not eligible.

Age Divisions
  • Student - Those 13-17 years old
  • Adult - Those 18+ years old
  • Professional - Those who make at least 1/2 their income from selling their art
  • Photography - Any photograph, digital manipulation is accepted
  • Flat Art - Any 2-D art that is not a photograph (paintings, drawings, etc.)
  • 3-D Art - Any 3-D art (sculpture, metalworking, furniture, etc.)

The Contest begins on March 29, 2013 and ends on May 18, 2013, 11:59 PM CST. Sponsor is the official timekeeper for this Contest.

Entry Fees

The entry fee is U.S. $10 per submission. An entry consists of a completed online form, a single piece of photography/artwork uploaded in digital form and the entry fee.

How To Enter

Entries to the Contest must be submitted through the website,

Create a login with the required information, including your name, address, telephone number, email address; and submit along with your digital image of photography/artwork and fee in accordance with the instructions that follow.

The entry must be entered into age category that corresponds with the entrant as of March 29, 2013. Parental consent is required for entrants under the age of 18.

  1. Student - Those 13-17 years old
  2. Adult - Those 18+ years old
  3. Professional - Those who make at least 1/2 their income from selling their art

Each entry must specify a Category and must follow the subject matter of such Category. The same photo cannot be entered in more than one Category. The categories for the entries are

  1. Photography - Any photograph, digital manipulation is accepted
  2. Flat Art - Any 2-D art that is not a photograph (paintings, drawings, etc.)
  3. 3-D Art - Any 3-D art (sculpture, metalworking, furniture, etc.)

The theme of this year’s Contest is: Dallas Solstice – Carnival: Dare To Dream In Color.

Each entry must comply with the following requirements: Photograph/artwork must be in digital format. Only online entries will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted. Scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints are acceptable. All digital files must be 3 megabytes or smaller and must be in JPEG or JPG format.

The entries in each Category will judged separately, in accordance with the Judging Criteria, as defined below. All entries must be submitted and received by May 18, 2013, at 11:59 p.m. CST. Proof of submission is not proof of receipt. Entries must be made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry. "Authorized account holder is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, internet domain owner, or other person or organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. Sponsor reserves the right to examine the original photograph/source material in order to confirm compliance with these rules.

Winner Selection

On or around May 20th, 2013 prize-winning entries will be selected from among all entries, by judges appointed by Dallas Solstice, based on quality originality of work and representation of Contest theme in each category. Decisions of the judges are final and binding.

Verification of Potential Winner

The potential winners will be notified by email, telephone, or registered mail after judging is complete. The potential winners shall be required to sign and return within ten (10) days an affidavit of eligibility, liability/public release, and other applicable documents in order to claim his/her prize if applicable. If a potential winner of any prize cannot be contacted or fails to return the forgoing documents within the required time period, if the prize notification is returned as undeliverable, if any aspect of the Contest is prohibited or restricted under the laws of the potential winner’s place of residence, and/or if the potential winner is disqualified for any other reason, no prize will be awarded to the disqualified entrant and another potential winner will be selected as described above.

Awards and Exhibits

Selected winning works will be chosen for exhibits at the Dallas Solstice Festival and galleries across the DFW area. We will be awarding cash and gift prizes in each category and age division. One entry from the category winners will be selected to be the official artist for Dallas Solstice 2013, and win the Grand Prize.

Entry Conditions

By entering the Contest, entrants agree (a) To these official rules and to the decision of the judges, Sponsor and its agents, which decisions shall be final in all respects; (b) All material submitted to Sponsor by entrant, including but not limited to the original work(s) of art and the digital photographs thereof (“Entry Materials”) are the original works of authorship of the entrant alone; (c) All elements of the Entry Materials may be reproduced and generally used by Sponsor as contemplated in these Official Rules without the knowledge, consent or approval of any third party; (d) Entrant herby grants Sponsor non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, assignable and royalty-free right to use the name, image, likeness comment and biographical data of entrant, and to photograph, adapt and reproduce the Entry Materials, in its various products and services and the related advertising, publicity, promotional and marketing materials of the Sponsor in any and all media, and to permit others to do so; (e) No use of the Entry Materials and/or the other information of materials provided by entrant will invade infringe, injure and/or interfere with the rights of any third party and/or expose Sponsor to any claims or liabilities to third parties, (f) Entries may be posted on Sponsor’s website and (g) Sponsor may use likeness of entries on clothing, point-of sale materials, posters or other marketing materials of their choosing, and (h) entrant is solely responsible of payment of taxes that may be imposed by reason of the prize(s) awarded to entrant. (i) To release, indemnify and hold harmless Dallas Solstice, their affiliates and subsidiaries and their respective directors, officers and employees, agents and assigns form and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages or injuries of any kind resulting in whole or in part, from their participation in the contest and the acceptance and use of a prize; and (j) that Sponsor and its agents are not responsible for late, lost or misdirected entries or mail. Late, damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries are void.

General Conditions

Sponsor reserves the right to cancel suspend and/or modify the Contest, or any part of it, if any fraud, technical failures or any other factor beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the Contest, as determined by Sponsor in its sole Discretion. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process of the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or any other promotion or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt by an entrant or other individual to deliberately damage any website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Limitations of Liability

Sponsor is not responsible for: (1) Any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest; (2) Technical failures or any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) Unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Contest; (4) Technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest or the processing of entries, including but not limited to errors resulting in the non-delivery, loss, destruction or corruption of any entry; or (5) Any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, form entrant’s participation in the Contest or receipt or use of misuse of any prize.

Data Privacy

Entrants agree that personal data, may be processed, shared, and otherwise used for the purposes and within the context of the Contest and any other purposes outlined in these Official Rules. The data may also be used by the Sponsor in order to verify the participant's identity, postal address, and telephone number or to otherwise verify the participant's eligibility to participate in the Contest. Participants have the right to access, review, rectify, or cancel any personal data held by Sponsor by writing to Sponsor at Dallas Solstice.

Contest Results

For results of the Contest and/or a copy of these Official send a hand-printed, self-addressed, stamped envelope to Dallas Solstice 2013 Art Contest, 5638 Worth Street, Dallas, TX 75214. Request for the winner list must be received by July 1, 2013.
